Key takeaways

  • Start with your channels, risks, actions, and privacy constraints.
  • Demand explainable evidence and reconstructable decisions.
  • Verify provider capabilities and action states.
  • Test reporting definitions, access boundaries, export, and reversal.

Write the operational requirement first

List ad networks, websites, regions, traffic volume, agency or client boundaries, conversion sources, lead workflows, privacy requirements, response permissions, reporting audiences, and acceptable false-positive risk. This prevents a generic comparison from choosing the wrong tool.

Separate must-have current capabilities from roadmap promises and unsupported provider actions.

Evaluate evidence and decision quality

Ask how clicks connect to sessions and visitors, how identity boundaries work, which signal families contribute, how missing data is treated, and whether score, confidence, label, decision, and action are separate. Request an example that can be reconstructed after a model update.

  • Can investigators see source, time, scope, and model version?
  • Can low-confidence traffic remain unclassified?
  • Are actions verified and reversible?
  • Are estimates separated from provider-confirmed outcomes?

Test privacy, governance, and total cost

Review consent controls, masking, retention, regional processing, sub-processors, access scope, audit logs, exports, deletion, incident response, and contract terms. Include implementation, traffic tiers, seats, integrations, storage, support, and operational review in total cost.

A controlled pilot should measure tracking coverage, investigation usefulness, false positives, action verification, and team adoption—not only the number of flagged clicks.

Decision quality improves when each stage keeps its own meaning.
